KJT Case Conference

I went to a case conference in Seoul, Korea, jointly organized by Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. It's been three years since I've been in person, so I got to see people I've missed. Everyone hugged.

　Not only from the three countries but also from Israel. I have never been to Israel. I only know that it is in conflict with Palestine. The therapist from Israel was helping Palestinian families and Muslim families. In Muslim countries, the authority to divorce rests with the man, and divorce is a disgrace to the family, so even if there is a marital conflict or domestic violence, the wife has no recourse but to return to her parent's home. However, the family home may feel shame for such a daughter.

This international case conference makes us aware of the influence of culture and religion on the view of family and marriage.

　As I left the venue to catch a cab home, the window of one of the cabs rolled down and a female therapist from Israel said, "Hi Come on" and offered me a seat. As we talked on the way to the hotel, our perceptions of East Asia from Israel's point of view and Israel from Asia's point of view were quite different from each other.

　I thought Israel = Judaism = Jews, but she told me that she was neither Jewish nor Palestinian, neither Jewish nor Muslim, but a Christian. She tells me that she thought Korea, Taiwan, and Japan were the same culture. After all, it is important for us to meet and talk with each other in person.
